Master of Arts in Teaching - Elementary Education (45 Hours) - Special Education General Curriculum (K-6) Add-On (Online)

Liberty’s 100% online MAT in Elementary Education – Special Education 45-hour track provides students with the requirements for licensure to teach at the elementary leven and have expertise in working with students with special needs. The core content of this degree covers essential learning theory and teaching practice but also includes optional intensives for in-class mentorship. Students will also complete internship and practicum requirements in a school in their area while completing coursework online. Students who want to pursue special education often find that schools need teachers to cover specific grade level teaching needs. Liberty’s 45 hour MAT in Elementary Education – Special Education allows students to be effective educators with multiple specialziations so that they can fill roles as elementary teachers as well as facilitating learning for students with special needs. The additional content area in special education will also allow students to pursue an additional endorsement area for licensure, providing flexibility in the marketplace and helping them better prepare for school districts with various teaching needs. Based on meeting these requirements, students will be eligible for state licensure in their teaching endorsement areas and can pursue teaching positions which require a license. Graduates of the MAT in Elementary Education – Special Education will also be well-equipped for roles in private schools or other educational institutions which do not require licensure, for curriculum development management roles, and academic administration roles.
