Students in Sullivan’s online Associate Degree in Health Information Management (HIM) program can begin their career by earning a certificate in coding. Along with an American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) credential, the medical coding certificate prepares you for jobs in all types of medical facilities, inpatient and outpatient, and other industry-related positions such as insurance companies and government agencies. Health information technology (HIT) professionals with an associate degree pursue registration through the AHIMA as registered health information technicians (RHIT). RHITs are responsible for the quality of patient health information in acute care hospitals, physician offices, and other outpatient facilities.
